NEW DELHI: On a day when Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandra Babu Naidu continued his outreach to the Opposition leaders in the national capital, the BJP alleged that the TDP and other political outfits in the state are indulging in politics of illusion wherein attempts are being made to cast false impressions upon people about the Centre.

The BJP spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP G V L Narasimha Rao told Express that the political parties in Andhra Pradesh are competing with each other in conning the people by creating illusionary neglect of the state by the Centre.

The BJP leader was reacting to the claims of the AP chief minister that the Modi government did not fulfil the commitment given by the government on the floor of the Parliament to accord the special category status to Andhra Pradesh.

“Except the North-eastern and hilly states, none have been given the special category status. Following the implementation of the 14th Finance Commission report, the Modi government has given special attention to Andhra Pradesh which entailed more financial assistance to the state than what would have accrued under the special category status,” added Rao.

The BJP leader also stated that there is an attempt to create the impression that the Modi government did not fulfil the commitments to the state under the AP Reorganisation Act. On the contrary, the Modi government has gone beyond the commitments in assisting Andhra Pradesh, he added.

“Besides over Rs 3 lakh crore by way of investments and infrastructure assistance, the Modi government has ensured an inflow of Rs 2.44 lakh crore to the state in the course of five years, which is more than double of Rs 1.17 lakh crore provided to the state by the previous UPA government under former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh,” Rao added.
