Militants kill abducted policeman in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district; rebels attack Army patrol

The body of policeman Mohammad Saleem Shah was recovered from an orchard in Qaimoh area of Kulgam district on Saturday afternoon.

SRINAGAR : Militants on Saturday killed a policeman they had abducted from his home in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, while Army and CRPF patrol parties came under attack by militants.
A police officer said the body of policeman Mohammad Saleem Shah was recovered from an orchard in Qaimoh area of Kulgam district on Saturday afternoon.He said the body bore bullet wounds and marks of violence and torture.“It is apparent that the policeman was killed after being tortured by the militants,” the officer said.

The policeman was abducted by militants from his home at village Mutalhama in Kulgam on Friday evening. Saleem was recently promoted as constable from Special Police Officer (SPO) rank and was undergoing training at the police training centre in Kathua in Jammu province. The police officer said Saleem was on leave and had returned home some days ago. He said the police had launched a manhunt to identify and track down the killers of the policeman.No militant group has claimed responsibility of the attack so far.

This is the second incident this month of a policeman being abducted and killed by militants. On July 6, militants had shot dead policeman Javaid Ahmad Dar after abducting him near his residence in Vigil village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district. Dar was Personal Security Officer of former SSP Shopian Shailendra Mishra and had participated in anti-militancy operations in the volatile south Kashmir.
On June 14, Army man Aurangzeb was abducted by militants from Shopian village. His bullet ridden body was recovered next day.
