SRINAGAR: The BJP has removed its Jammu and Kashmir unit president and appointed Sat Sharma as new chief of the J&K party unit.

The BJP president J P Nadda today in a  communique appointed Sat Sharma as president of  Jammu and Kashmir BJP.

He has replaced Ravindra Raina, the firebrand party leader. Raina was J&K BJP president for over 6 years.

Raina's future as J&K BJP president had become uncertain after he lost the recently held Assembly polls from his home constituency of Nowshera in Rajouri district to National Conference's Surinder Choudhary.

The outgoing J&K BJP chief Raina has been appointed as national executive member of BJP.

Raina's defeat in the Assembly polls was a big setback to BJP in Jammu region, where it won all its 29 seats.

The replacement of J&K BJP chief has taken place hours before party legislators in Jammu and Kashmir are going to elect leader of legislature party.
