KALABURAGI : The body of a dalit student of the Central University of Karnataka in Kalaburagi, who committed suicide at his hostel room, was taken to his native Chandauli of Uttar Pradesh in a flight on Saturday.

Shaktiraju Anand (23) was a third year student of Bachelor of Business Administration.
Following the information given by authorities of the university, Pankaj, his cousin, arrived Kalaburagi on Saturday morning.

After Pankaj confirmed it was the body of Shaktiraju, the body was taken to the mortuary situated at District Government Hospital and the postmortem was conducted. Later, the body was handed over to Pankaj.

Pankaj, an alumnus of CUK, told Express he did not suspect anyone behind Shaktiraju’s death, however, he asked the police to conduct an investigation to know why his cousin committed suicide and lodged a complaint at Narona police station. Shaktiraju was soft spoken, said Pankaj.

Shaktiraju, who lost his father a few years ago, was the eldest among two other siblings. His wedding was scheduled to be held on May 22.

Shaktiraju had not attended  classes for almost a week before his death. On Friday evening, when his roommates came back, they found the room locked from inside. When they broke open the door, they saw Shaktiraju hanging from a fan.
