“He was distributing wedding cards last evening. He purchased traditional bamboo basketry before dropping me at my house,” said Bhasker, a lab technician with the CHC.

His mother Guramma had called Bhasker and enquired why her son had not turned up at their residence at Mahalakshmipura Extension in Bengaluru. The incident came to light only after the lock was broken. Girish had breathed his last around 2 pm.

‘‘He had given the invitation to me as well on Thursday and sought long leave. He gave charge to another doctor. I am shocked. Autopsy report can only reveal the cause of the death,’’ said District Health Officer (DHO) Dr Rangaswamy.

Dr Girish was the only son of Guramma and Chandrashekar M Awari, a retired bank manager who hailed from Yadgir. He has three sisters and all are married.
