TUMAKURU: Chairperson of Expert Committee on Preventing Sexual Violence against Women and Children, V S Ugrappa, walked into a controversy by summoning the alleged rape victim to the Tumkur University’s guest house for inquiry.

Women’s rights activist Pramila Nesargi and the State Women’s Commission chairperson Nagalakshmi Bai had an argument over the issue during a tete-a-tete they had after they visited the woman at the district general hospital.

“Though the committee has women  members, it was unwarranted to summon the victim to a guest house,” Nesargi said. But Bai maintained that it was “not at all a big issue”.
Ugrappa, along with committee members - MLC Sharanappa Matturu, former minister Motamma, Prafulla Madhukar, Vimala, Leela Sampige and Prabha - had in-camera proceedings with the victim for over one hour.
The victim who has been rehabilitated at the Special Women Recuperation Centre at the district general hospital was brought by the police to the Madan Mohan Malaviya guest house around 1pm.
