Hope floats for Mekedatu, Mahadayi projects

MYSURU: H D Kumraswamy has said the government was committed to executing the Mekedatu balancing reservoir project across the Cauvery and the Mahadayi project in Mumbai-Karnataka. Currently, the process of obtaining approval of the competent authority for the Detailed Project Report submitted to the Centre regarding the Mekedatu project is in progress, he said.  

Anticipating that the judgment of the Mahadayi River Dispute Tribunal may come in August, he said work will be initiated as per the judgment. He said the government was committed to the rehabilitation and reconstruction work of Upper Krishna Project III stage and action will be taken to store additional water in the Almatti dam.

  There is a proposal to   fill  160 tanks in Dudda and Shanthigrama hobli of Hassan taluk at a cost of Rs 70 crore, he said. The government has allocated Rs 30 crore to fill water to tanks from the Lokapavani in Mandya.The government plans to implement a project at a cost of Rs 100 crore to provide irrigation facility from the Krishna to Chikkodi taluk in Belagavi district.
