THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A day after K Muraleedharan kicked up a row over his ‘Opposition’ remarks, Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala welcomed the criticism, stating that the criticism was being taken on a positive note.  He also said that the UDF will meet on January 3 to chalk out strategies on further agitations against the government.

“Muraleedharan is a senior leader. All his criticism are being accepted and he had only good intention when making such a statement. He has raised such criticism only for strengthening the Front,’’ he said.

According to Chennithala, IUML leader E T Mohammed Basheer has also not said anything wrong. Both the leaders only wanted to strengthen the agitations against the anti-people policies of the Centre and the State Government, he said.

All such criticism was part of a democratic set-up and there was nothing controversial about this, he said. Mentioning that the style of functioning of the UDF was different from that of the LDF, he said that the UDF while in Opposition had always given six months’ time for a government. “I also continued the same and waited for six months. But the situation has now changed,’’ he said.

On Rajmohan Unnithan’s statement criticising Muraleedharan, he said that it was not good for everyone to make comments.  Meanwhile, IUML leader P K Kunhalikutty said that there was a feeling in the UDF that the agitations against the Left Government and the Centre should be strengthened. “We are meeting on January 3 for discussing the strategies to be adopted in the coming days,’’ he said.
