KOCHI: The Kochi Metro Rail crossed another milestone on Saturday with the advanced signalling system - Communication Based Train Control(CBTC) - adopted for the project getting Independent Safety Assessment (ISA) certificate.
The safety examination was conducted by Bureau Veritas, an independent third party assessor. The system was given ISA certificate after assessing the signalling trial and integration of automatic train control with the Operation Control Centre at the Muttom yard.
Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) officers said with the CBTC getting ISA certificate, the signalling system has become fully operational. Officials from the Italy-based Bureau Veritas had visited Kochi last week as part of the assessment. They conducted a detailed examination of the signalling system before awarding the ISA certificate.
The safety certificate for four sets of trains has also been awarded.
The fire safety inspection at all 11 stations between Aluva and Palarivattom has been completed and necessary certificates were given.
The Electrical Inspector of the Union Government inspected the power supply installations and the traction supply through the third rail. “As we have obtained the ISA certificate, Fire Safety certificate and Electrical Installation certificate, we are now waiting for the inspection of the Commissioner for Metro Rail Safety. It is expected to be conducted within a couple of weeks.
After inspection, the first stretch between Aluva and Palarivattom will be ready for commercial operation,” said a DMRC officer.
