KOCHI: To protect and develop the Chellanam fishing hamlet which has been adversely affected by the sea erosion following cyclone Ockhi, the authorities on Thursday prepared a comprehensive package.
The package includes the construction of seawall and breakwater (pulimuttu) in the area. An all-party meeting convened by District Collector K Mohammed Y Safirulla and K J Maxi MLA on Thursday also decided to submit a report to the government in this regard.
This will be done after drafting the project by coordinating with various departments on the maintenance of houses which were partially damaged, cleaning of canal, construction of service road, construction of mud walls parallel to seawall, laying of coir carpets. K J Maxi said immediate steps will be taken to construct the seawall after completing tender proceedings within three months. Though a project for the construction of seawall and breakwater is under the consideration of the state government, a new project will be prepared with adequate changes in the wake of the disaster.
