IDUKKI: Fearing social stigma arising out of the inter-caste marriage of the only boy in their family, three members - father, mother and daughter - committed suicide on Tuesday. The deceased are C T Murukan (55) wife Muthulakshmi (45) and daughter Bhanupriya (20) of Keezanthoor village in Marayoor.

On Friday, relatives lodged a complaint at the Marayoor police station after Murukan and family did not return home. During a probe, the police found Murukan on Tuesday in critical condition near the railway track at Kuzumam.

Although police immediately took him to hospital, the doctors confirmed his death. The bodies of Muthulakshmi and Bhanupriya were also found from the same place adjacent to a thicket. According to the police, Murukan’s son Pandiyaraj has been working at a private company in Udumalpet and fell in love with native girl Pavithra. But his parents did not agree to it. Neglecting it, both got married a week before.
