THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday said  the policing system in the state should be modified with people-friendly projects integrated with technology. He was speaking after launching three technology-driven projects of Kerala Police at the Tagore Theatre here.

“ The government will provide all the necessary assistance to the police, including fund and basic requirements for implementing novel projects. For this, the police should utilise the technology effectively. The updates of fast changing technology are inevitable for the police as cyber crimes are on the rise,” the Chief Minister said.

The three projects are ‘Samhita’-- an internal Closed User group (CUG) service enabling free communication for police officers by providing SIM cards; ‘Khaki Hats’-- a novel project to form ethical hackers in the police force and ‘Clone-free Hitech Smart Card’  which will provide details of service information of police personnel.

Vijayan also said the state police had made giant strides technologically and the hi-tech projects stood testimony to this.

He also stressed the manpower in the police force would be increased by creating 451 new postings in the Woman’s Battalion and 232 new postings at eight new Coastal Police stations. State Police Chief(SPC) Loknath Behera said Kerala is the first state in the country which will provide free mobile phone connections to all the police officers.

V S Sivakumar, MLA, presided over the event. The smart card was developed by C-DAC and the free SIM cards were provided by the BSNL.
