THRISSUR: North Zone ADGP Sudhesh Kumar on Monday said Jishnu Pranoy, the first-year Nehru College of Engineering, Pampady, student  who committed suicide after facing alleged mental and physical abuse for copying in examination, may not have been guilty of copying.

“It does not seem Jishnu was involved in cheating in the examination,” said Kumar, after reviewing the progress of the probe into Jishnu’s death.
He added the inquiry team was mulling charging the accused with abetting suicide and probe the mental torture he faced at the hands of the college staff.

The ADGP talked with students, principal and other college staff. He also visited the examination hall in question, and Jishnu’s hostel room, where he was found hanging.
Thrissur Range IG M R Ajith Kumar, Rural SP Vijayakumar and Irinjalakkuda ASP Kiran Narayanan, who are in charge of the probe, accompanied the ADGP during his visit to the college to collect evidence.
