The postmortem report of Jishnu Pranoy that came out on Thursday hinted that he underwent physical torture. The report also confirmed that the death of the 18-year-old student of Nehru College of Engineering and Research centre, Pampady, happened due to hanging. Reni Joseph, a postgraduate student of Thrissur Medical College Hospital (MCH), conducted the postmortem of Jishnu’s body, which was found hanging in the college’s hostel on January 6. “This is the standard procedure.

The department head supervised the postmortem,” said MCH superintendent Nizaruddhin. The report mentioned Jishnu’s nose and upper and lower lips had bruises that were inflicted before his death. The wounds were not deep, said the report, adding that he also had bruises on his neck, which were caused due to the hanging. Police will discuss the postmortem’s findings with doctors.

A copy of the report was handed to Jishnu’s relatives. Students of the college had alleged that the Vice-principal and PRO of the college had physically assaulted Jishnu after which he committed suicide. The college management, however, claimed that Jishnu committed suicide after he was caught copying in an examination on January 6.
