KOZHIKODE: Timely intervention of Childline officers on Friday spoiled a bid to marry off a 16-year-old Muslim girl at Kottur in Balussery block panchayat.

The officers said the girl, a Plus 2 student, was to be married on Thursday. Acting on an anonymous tip-off, the Vadakara Child Development Project officer reached the girl’s house and issued a notice to the parents directing them to stop the illegal marriage.

At the officers’ behest, the parents agreed to postpone the girl’s marriage  until she turned 18. No case was registered as the marriage was called off.
