Rock the Christmas party scene

Navamy Sudhish

KOCHI:With Christmas just around the corner and New Year fast closing in, the party fever is at its peak. If you plan to turn heads at the festive events and dazzle your way to 2017, you ought to follow certain rules.

Colour play

Instead of routine red, try deep purple. Classic black should be carefully paired with statement accessories. Shimmering golds and sequined dresses are also in, but make sure that you don’t go overboard with the bling factor. Metallic shades are another rage of the season, but go for tints that suit your skin tone. If teal is not your colour, try midnight blue or copper. Normally they complement a range of shades and will easily bring in the festive look. If you want to try pastels, stay monochrome as colour blocking may not be a great idea.

Try a cape

Stay away from most of Indian outfits as they may not fit the party template. The best bet this season will be a cape gown or maxi dress. Short and sheer capes with hand detailing seems the flavour of the season. The easiest way to add a dash of glam, it goes perfect with almost all prints and textures. Translucent crepes, micro velvets, chiffons and even tissues can be combined with an embroidered cape. And if you are not comfortable with gowns and cocktail dresses, stick to the evergreen six-yard. Yes, you heard it right. You can double your fashion quotient with a dainty sari and matching cape.

Ruffles and laces

A white lace gown, Priyanka Chopra’s red carpet pick for Oscars, seems to be most trending outfit this year. And remember how Kareena Kapoor rocked maternity fashion in a gorgeous black lace dress? Yes, it seems ruffles and laces are back with a bang. Designers have reinvented ruffles in way that sparks charm and elegance. They may wrap your shoulders or run across your whole body, lending an air of timeless sophistication. Pastel ruffles and lace dresses will make you the belle of the ball when combined with the right accessories.

Go metallic

When it comes to makeup, the keyword is moderation. Go for a muted metallic look with perfect contouring. Smoky eyes are perfect for night parties, but remember to use some superfine glitter shadow. If you are opting for dramatic eyes go easy on lip colour. Use a lipstick with a hint of gold and dust some soft shimmer on your cheekbones. Complete the look with soft waves or a stylish chignon.
