KOCHI: The beautiful acrylic paintings with the perfect detailing and sharp features meet the eye at Durbar Hall Art Centre where the works of artist Yeldose Ezhattukai are being displayed. As many as 16 acrylic paintings are on display.Titled ‘Unexpected pleasures’, the works capture our attention to something which is illusionary but remains with us somewhere. In blue,  green and white hues, the paintings portray the stories of human beings who led a life without losing hope and faith.

Experimenting with new subjects is what excites this artist. “It has been 30 years. As I like to experiment a lot with colours and use my canvas to the best way possible, I try to create something unique,” said Yeldose.

What makes this artist stand out is the time span of his works.  He has randomly explored the themes based on nature and journey of women depicting different phases of life.
‘Unexpected Pleasures’ is an array of paintings that show the connection between nature and human beings. The joy that nature gives us when the plants grow and the joy that a farmer feels when he sees paddy all golden and ripe.

The artist has even tried to celebrate the changing of seasons and has shown how each season plays an important role in our lives, along with the preparation that we do as new season sets in.
Another striking work is a painting where a human head is depicted. The artist says: “In this work, I have portrayed what it becomes when the boundaries fail and there is nothing left. When we do something, we don’t know how it will turn out, yet we do it.” The works are done within a time period of 10 to 12 months. He is presently working on his new series based on Eschatology, the study of lost things.
The artist has won many accolades such as Kalabushan Award for Best Art Teacher in 2006 and Kerala Lalitha Kala Akademi Grant in 2003. He has conducted both solo and group shows in Kerala as well as in other States. Presently, he is working as an art teacher in Global Public School, Kochi. The exhibition will continue till November 30.
