Neety Singh’s excitement is palpable when she talks about her new range of jewellery that focuses on the richness of yellow gold. Polished to give an antique look, Neety says that every piece of beaten gold has been combined with polki and precious stones.
One of the highlights of Neety’s core design aesthetics is recrafting pieces from old antique ones. She once created a necklace out of an old heirloom broach extracted from a turban. “Creating something big out of a tukdhi takes months but I use it to create something grand. I begin with a design template but as the work progresses the final product starts looking more ornate,” she says.
Mathapattis have been broken down and strung together unconventionally. Then they have been studded with stones to form statement neckpieces. “It’s almost like an architectural project. There are squares and tear drops earrings as well,” she adds.
While her designs are inspired by India, Neety hardly envisions only the Indian woman sporting them. “Every piece stands on its own and adds a chic spin even if worn with subtle westerns. For instance, the pieces can add glamour to a plain white shirt worn with a pair of trousers,” she says. Such is the versatility of Neety’s creations. No wonder, her exhibitions are so awaited in New York, Singapore and Washington DC.
“Clients there like my design aesthetics and I understand the lifestyle and look they aspire for,” she says. Neety always loved everything artistic. “Designing was a hobby. So when it came to switching careers, I embraced designing gladly,” she signs off.
