Infiniti - the luxury arm of Japanese car manufacturer Nissan - says it is now "well on the way" to launching in the UK with its first major centre due to open in Reading this September. Infiniti had originally been scheduled to launch here in the spring, after it released cars in left-hand drive European markets in the autumn of 2008.

This will be followed by two further Infiniti Centres in west and north London, with more added "progressively" in key areas of the UK over the following two years, bringing the total to 12.

Infiniti Europe has also confirmed its partner for the UK operation; Rymco UK, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Rasamny Younis Motor Co SAL, the Infiniti partner in the Lebanon.

The full Infiniti range - including the G37 Coupe, G37 Convertible, EX37 coupe crossover and the FX line of crossovers - will be available from launch in the UK.

The firm will add a larger saloon model and "performance" V6 diesel next year.

The Infiniti brand was launched in the US in 1989. Its aim was to create and sell premium vehicles in the US that would not otherwise fit in with Nissan's more mainstream image.

In Europe, it intends to provide "an individualised and exceptional customer service".
