NEW DELHI: Google Doodle on Friday celebrated the 125th birthday of Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis, the father of Indian statistical research.

Born in West Bengal in 1893, Mahalanobis is best remembered for the theory of Mahalanobis distance, a statistical measure.

He was also one of the members of the first Planning Commission of India.

Mahalanobis pursued his education at Brahmo Boys school in Calcutta after which he joined the Presidency College.

He died on June 28, 1972 at the age of 78.
