CHENNAI: Tamil serial viewers might sometimes get bored with the usual storyline of more than 50 serials running on various channels, but not with the title songs. The increase in number of caller tunes of serials is a clear example of how people love the title songs of the never-ending soap operas. When Unnai Thedi Kadhal Vandhal Solli Anupu title song from Kadhalika Neramilai serial on Vijay TV became a craze among the viewers, particularly, youngsters, not only mobile companies but music directors too started realsing their reach. “Right from Kungumam serial my slot is at 10 pm on Sun TV and that’s the time the audience prefers fast numbers. All of my serials had good title songs, be it Manaivi or Lakshmi and then now Shivasakthi, all are fast numbers and I feel only such songs will make the viewers sit and watch the serials. However good a serial might be but if the song is doesn’t sound good, they might change the channel,” says Sujatha Vijaykumar, producer, Home Movie Makers. According to Imman, the serial slot is very important. “If it’s evening, then producers ask for heavy tunes and in the morning it’s soothing ones. Catchy tunes will reach well with the audiences,” says Imman, who has composed music for more than 75 serials, including serials like Krishnadasi, Kolangal, Kalasam, Sivashakthi, Vasantham Thirumathi Selvam and much more. “I’m doing only title songs for serials and you know that will be played throughout the year,” he grins as he speaks.
