They are so out there, it’s hard to miss them. Bold, abstract geometric and mosaic prints are making themselves more and more visible this season not only in apparels but just about everything. With this new style, you don’t have to bother about being well coordinated. Being mismatched will make all the heads turn. ‘‘What more could somebody ask for? The comfort of not having to spend hours in front of the mirror trying to keep up the pretty girl-next-door-image is so liberating,’’ says Tanya K Chopra, a stylist based out of Mumbai, who is having all the fun dressing up her clients in outlandish abstract creations.
The trend is not just limited to Mumbai. These key print highlights were a huge hit at the recently concluded Paris Fashion Week from where many national and international designers improvised and created whole collections comprising mosaic and geometric designs in the loudest of colours, specially neons. ‘‘The colour palette is the most attractive aspect of this new drift. I was the first one in my college to get a phone cover that had richly saturated colors glaring me in the eye. I picked it up from Sarojini Nagar of all the places for a real bargain,’’ says Mudit Gupta, a student of Delhi University.
The fact that these products are easily available in flee markets makes them affordable and accessible. One doesn’t necessarily have to rummage through high end show rooms. You will find all kinds of things—shoes, shocks, jewellery, mobile skins, Ipad covers, bed sheets, curtains, ties, shoes and of course clothing for men and women.
It is interesting to see how these mosaic and geometric designs that were traditionally only limited to floor tiles have now been contemporised and incorporated into
garments and accessories. Their true character, we feel, comes out when teamed with solid colours—blacks and white being our top suggestions. Whether you take that advice or not, one things for sure, these prints will go a long way in sprucing up your spring wardrobe.
