When the history of Malayalam film music is written, the first name will be that of K J Yesudas. He has sung over 70,000 songs in many languages, mainly Malayalam, but also in Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, Bengali, Gujarati, Odia, Marathi, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Tulu, Malay, Russian, Arabic, Latin and English in more than a five-decade career.
He has won seven National Awards for the Best Male Playback Singer (more than anyone else), five Filmfare Awards and the State Award for the Best Playback Singer 43 times. Kerala’s songbird is India’s pride.
