Sheer shoes are trending big on runways and red carpets this season

The clear shoe trend that was emerging last fall has clearly picked up speed this year. And it could be seen in full swing at the recent New York Fashion Week. Made of lucite, vinyl or mesh, these versatile nude shoes were displayed by most brands this season. But among all the sheer shoes on show, there were three labels that emerged the clear winners— Alexander Wang, Oscar de la Renta and Prabal Gurung.

Alexander Wang
The American designer had fun with clear vinyl and satin for his Spring 2018 collection. The pointy toe pumps were crafted with sheer and fishnet socks while his ultra-feminine strap thong sandals were truly party ready.

Oscar de la Renta
This fashion house’s clear shoes had  splashy dots in purple, green, black and blue. The wooden heel was in the shape of a paintbrush handle. Some were painted with the words “Mr De la Renta,” honouring the house founder.

Prabal Gurung This American
designer of Nepalese descent made a bold statement with large square lucite heels in white as well as bright blue, yellow or hot pink. Sheer or clear vinyl was crafted into uppers which further enhanced the see-through effect.
