NEW DELHI: The Indian Air Force is monitoring frantic air activities in Pakistan, while maintaining a strict vigil to defend any violation of Indian air space.
The IAF downplayed the sorties by PAF fighter jets saying it was an air defence exercise. Officials in New Delhi were amused at Pakistan air force’s attempt to create war hysteria in the region.
The Indian armed forces have been on a general state of alert after the Mumbai terror attacks. The IAF has tightened the air defence systems to maintain surveillance.
Reports from Islamabad claimed that Pakistan Air Force used its frontline fighter jets, the F-16s, for the sorties over major cities including Lahore, Karachi and Rawalpindi. With the fighter jets roaring over the cities, some sort of message is being sent about the preparedness of Pakistan Air Force, said officials.
India has also stepped up vigil, but in a covert manner. IAF moved in MiG-29 fighter jets, primarily used for air defence, to Hindon air base located near New Delhi. The officials claimed the fighter jets were meant to protect the capital from aerial threats.
