NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court Tuesday asked the chairman of the Judges Inquiry Committee (JIC) to replace senior counsel P.P. Rao after Sikkim High Court Chief Justice P.D. Dinakaran alleged that Rao was biased against him.

The JIC, headed by Justice Aftab Alam, is inquiring into charges of corruption, land grabbing, possessing disproportionate assets and misbehaviour against Dinakaran.

The apex court bench of Justices G.S. Singhvi and C.K. Prasad directed that Rao, a member of the JIC, be changed following a petition by Dinakaran.

Justice Singhvi said the newly constituted JIC would proceed with its inquiry on the basis of the charges already framed by it.
