NEW DELHI: The test success of Agni-V Intercontinental Ballistic Missile has put India in the league of nations that are capable of shooting down satellites in space, DRDO Chief and Scientific Advisor to the Defence Minister V K Saraswat said on Friday.

Speaking to the media, Saraswat also said work was on to get a naval variant of Agni-5 that could be launched from submarines.

Underlining India’s policy of “no-militarisation of space”, he said the country was not going to demonstrate the shooting down of a satellite, but said the Long Range Strategic Ballistic Missile, as Agni-V is being called by the Indian defence establishment, has opened many “avenues” for scientists.
