Express News Service

Unable to speak due to the ventilator tube inside her mouth, she wrote on a piece of paper on Thursday: “Have they been caught?” The 23-year-old girl, who was beaten up and so brutally gang-raped in a bus that the doctors were forced to remove her damaged intestines, continued to remain critical throughout the day but not lacking in fighting spirit.

“She is aware that the media has taken up the case. The girl asked her family whether the accused have been caught,” a hospital official said. On Wednesday, she had reportedly spoken to her mother and said, “I want to live”.

Doctors at the Safdarjung Hospital, who are all praises for the “brave girl” said Thursday that she passed an uneventful night and her vital parameters like blood pressure, urine output and respiratory rate were within acceptable limits.

“Next 7-10 days are very critical as there is impending danger of infection. She is making attempts to breathe on her own. She has to come out of this crisis, then we will talk about what is the next step,” Dr B D Athani, medical superintendent of the hospital said. She has an “immense fighting spirit” and despite sustaining such grievous injuries, “she had been stable and withstood, apart from the assault, all the exploratory interventions.”  he said.
