PIL against Gujarat Governor frivolous: SC

From our online archive

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed a PIL seeking the removal of Gujarat Governor Kamla Beniwal, terming it frivolous and imposed a cost of Rs 1 lakh.

The PIL was filed by advocate Ashok Pande, a native of Uttar Pradesh. A Bench, comprising Justice H L Dattu and Justice A K Dave, took strong exception to the PIL and felt that it was a misconceived one and wasted the precious time of the court.

At the outset, Justice Dattu made it clear to the advocate that the petition was frivolous and that he would impose heavy costs if he goes ahead with his arguments.

However, disregarding the warning of the Bench, Pande proceeded with his arguments for an hour and raised all sorts of issues, including appointing a Constitution Bench for this matter.
