Flush & forget e-toilets to go global

Meera Manu

The self-cleaning e-toilets, which played a huge role in flushing out the stigma attached to unclean public toilets in the state, are going global.

Thiruvananthapuram-based Eram Scientific Solutions Private Limited, which designs and markets these electronic toilets, is now getting ready to export them to West Asian countries including Saudi Arabia, Oman and Qatar.

The first public e-toilet in India was set up at Oyitty Road, Kozhikode, in 2010. Following a huge demand, several models of e-toilets were released. Eram developed special e-toilets for women — generally referred to as ‘she-toilets’, models suited for schools and those for general public.  The coin operated e-toilets have a GPRS facility to control their functioning. It works on energy saving methods, has a three-tier hygienic cleaning system - a pre-flush, manual/auto flush and platform wash arrangements.
