Gujarat CM Narendra Modi on Thursday accused the Congress of misusing the CBI to target state governments led by rival political parties.
“Now it is the IB vs the CBI,” Modi said at a book launch here, referring to the instance of the investigative agency questioning Intelligence Bureau Special Director Rajindar Kumar over an intelligence alert that allegedly led to the “encounter killing” of Ishrat Jehan and three others in Gujarat.
“See the CBI and the levels of misuse they can stoop to. Had I not experienced that I would not know it. Those who cannot accept victory and defeat by democracy are misusing the CBI. The Congress is misusing the CBI,” he said.
“Look at the ludicrous situation, the CBI now wants to the identity of the informers from the IB. How is this possible?” he asked.
The CBI believes that Rajinder masterminded the conspiracy to stage the encounter and generated an alert that the youths were LeT terrorists tasked with assassinating Modi.
Senior Gujarat police officials are being investigated by the CBI in the case in which Modi’s aide and former Home Minister Amit Shah is allegedly involved.
