TRAI hangs up on pesky calls, messages

Samiran Saha

Irritating SMSes on slimming belts to luxury villas, calls from bank companies selling credit cards and other financial products may soon be a thing of the past as Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai)  has finally decided to crack the whip. The new law preventing such activities will immediately come into force.

After a long time Trai has decided that telecom facilities given to a subscriber would be immediately disconnected if it is found that the number is being used for sending unsolicited communication.

“Names and addresses of such subscribers shall be entered into a blacklist and no resources would be allotted to these subscribers for a period of two years in such cases, Trai member R K Arnold told reporters here on Friday.
