Further details of Pakistan’s sinister plot to push through the fidayeen belonging to the LeT and Jaish-e-Mohammed into India emerged on Thursday, barely 24 hours after the Central intelligence agencies had intercepted messages, which hinted at the involvement of Islamabad’s Border Action Team (BAT) in the LoC infiltration.
Sources told Express that after being hemmed in by the Army near Shalbathe in Keran sector on September 24, the terrorists contacted their handlers in Pakistan and informed them that they were encountering heavy fire and were hence unable to pull back. The subsequent interception by the intelligence agencies effectively nails Pakistan’s lies.
Interestingly, the Pakistani military spokesperson had denied the involvement of the Pakistan Army in the infiltration and the use of its territory by terrorist outfits.
“The analysis of technical evidence suggests that it is a fidayeen unit divided into several sub groups and carrying huge loads to sustain for at least a month. The terrorists were in constant touch with their Pakistani handlers through satellite phone. The handler, who was believed to be a Pak Inter-services Intelligence(ISI)official, had asked them to return to the safe areas. The terrorists told the handlers they could not pull back as the Army was attacking them from all the sides. It appears that the terrorists at the time of the infiltration in September, wanted to stay at the border for sometime before moving towards hinterland,” sources said.
It is learnt an intelligence alert was also issued on September 12 indicating a possible infiltration bid by the LeT and JeM terrorists.
Subsequently, a more detailed and specific alert was issued on September 19, which was circulated to all the agencies concerned, including the Army.
