Arun Jaitley Apologises for Comment on Gang-rape

NEW DELHI: Finance minister Arun Jailey apologised for his remark where he had said that the December 16 gang-rape was "a small incident". Jailty had said that this incident had caused "millions of dollars of loss to tourism".

The defence minister clarified, "I regret that my speech was misconstrued, or some word that I used was construed as insensitive, that was not my intention".

Nirbhaya's father had termed the BJP leader's remark as "irresposible" and said that the comment had deeply disappointed him.

The December 16 gang-rape of a physiotherapy student inside a moving bus by six men resulted in widespread agitaion across the nation. The student later died in a Singapore hospital where she had been moved for treatment.
