NEW DELHI: The national capital is now the second most populous city in the world after Tokyo, according to a United Nations report. The study, released on Thursday, the eve of World Population Day, pegs Delhi’s population at 25 million.

“Delhi is expected to retain that spot through at least 2030, when its population is projected to reach 36 million,” the Population Division of UN’s Department of Economic and Social Affairs said in the 2014 revision of the World Urbanisation Prospects. Tokyo topped the ranking with 38 million people.
