NEW DELHI: After Vice Chancellor of Delhi University quits, HRD Minister Smriti Irani has summoned pro- VC Sudheesh Pachauri and the process for selecting a new VC to begin now.
Sources said Umesh Rai, Director South Campus is the only person eligible to become new VC of DU since all others are above 65 years of age. However, his chances are very slim and unlikely to get the post with the State BJP leadership in Delhi is opposed to him.
The HRD Ministry can appoint incharge VC for the time being and can start the process of selection of new VC, which will take some time. However, maintaining that dignity and autonomy of the University is more important, many faculty members favours new VC from Delhi University itself .
Meanwhile, sources said that even Pro-VC Sudheesh Pachauri also resigned.
