CHANDIGARH:  Congress chief Sonia Gandhi on Saturday launched a frontal attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and alleged that the schemes announced by the BJP-NDA Government were actually envisaged by the erstwhile Congress-led UPA Government. Interestingly, Sonia’s no-holds-barred attack at an election rally in Sirsa came barely hours after PM Modi had launched a tirade against the Congress at a BJP poll meeting in Karnal.

Cautioning the voters, Sonia said they should not be swayed by the hollow promises. The Congress leader also appealed to the people to vote using their mind and not their heart and claimed that the Congress was the only party which would ensure that the state continued on the path of development.

Praising the Bhupinder Singh Hooda Government for ushering in all-round development in the state, she said, “In the last 10 years, the Congress has laid a strong foundation for the state’s progress and we will take it forward on the path of development in the next five years. Only the Congress can do this.”

Sonia also urged the people to elect the Congress once again, to ensure speedy progress and to take forward thedevelopment initiated by the party in the last 10 years, for it to be cited as an example across the country.

“The Congress is not a party that believes in presenting others’ works as its own,” she said, adding, “Those who lure people with only false dreams to secure power have nothing to do with progress or the people of the state.”

Sonia asked, “Did they (NDA Government) fulfil the promise to  provide employment or tame inflation?.”

“They are creating an atmosphere as if nothing has happened in the country since Independence and they will change everyone’s fortunes overnight. A country is not built in a day. It takes years of hard work, right intention and a willingness to sacrifice, for a nation to develop,” she said, adding, “The Modi Government is fooling people and claiming false credit” .

She also attacked the BJP and the INLD for indulging in caste politics. At a rally in Sirsa, she said, “We have always given priority to public interest. Haryana has progressed in various fields over 10 years and the interests of all sections have been looked into. I appeal to you all to cast your votes on October 15 and give clear majority to our candidates.”

She said, “There was a time in Haryana when there was fear and crime. But, in the last 10 years, the Congress has established the rule of law. This is a land of soldiers, who sacrificed their lives, and hardworking farmers. We are proud of this land.”She also said the country’s first girls’ medical college was established in Sonipat district.
