NEW DELHI: The BJP’s highest decision making body - the Parliamentary Board - has stopped short of naming the Chief Ministers for both Maharashtra and Haryana. Instead, it appointed Central ministers as observers to select the the CMs from among its elected lot. The BJP tasked Home Minister Rajnath Singh and party general secretary J P Nadda as observers for Maharashtra and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu and party vice president Dinesh Sharma for Haryana. These leaders would travel to respective states to select the CMs.

While the road was clear for the BJP Government in Haryana, owing to its clear majority, the BJP said they would look for ways to get the magic number after electing its CM, thus giving a clear signal that it would want an alliance or even support, on its own terms.
“So far, we have not taken any decision on the Chief Ministers of Maharashtra or Haryana,” former BJP chief Rajnath said, after an hour-long meeting. The Parliamentary Board meeting, held at the BJP headquarters on Sunday evening; the day party saw a saffron surge, congratulated Modi for his intensive campaign for winning the polls. The 12-member board, which includes BJP chief Amit Shah, Modi, Rajnath, Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley and Venkaiah Naidu passed a resolution, saying the Congress was getting decimated from these states.
Expressing satisfaction over the result, the BJP also passed a resolution saying the result was a “reaffirmation of the popular faith in the BJP and the leadership of Modi...The BJP, which used to contest elections from very few constituencies in both the states, had contested all the constituencies in Haryana and in 256 constituencies of Maharashtra.”
“The fact that the Congress Party, which was ruling the two states, has been reduced to a poor third in both the states, is evidence of its shrinking electoral base,” the resolution added. Patting itself on the back, the BJP said the election results conclusively reflected the dominant position that the party has acquired in the politics of India.
