HC Green Light to DK's Thali, Beef Events

Sureshkumar

CHENNAI:  A day after police issued a ban on the beef-eating fest and thali-severing events scheduled to be held on Tuesday in connection with Ambedkar’s birth anniversary, the Madras High Court lifted the ban and permitted the Dravidar Kazhagam party to go ahead with the function as planned.

The green light from the court came after intense arguments by both parties for over three hours on Monday evening, following which the judge quashed the ban order issued by the Commissioner of Police. However, the last word is yet to be said in the case, as the government approached HC senior judge Sathish K Agnihotri and obtained nod to move an appeal challenging the single judge order. It is expected to be listed on Tuesday.

After the police ban on conducting the function, the DK, represented by its vice president Kalipoongundran, moved the HC.
