MUMBAI:Sector 13 of Kharghar, the far end node of Navi Mumbai, around 50 km from here, was abuzz on Friday with one question — who is Zuber Ahmed Khan?
The upper-middle class locality was eager to know more about Khan after channels flashed news of his arrest in Delhi. Khan was detained on Thursday after he approached the Iraq Embassy to get a visa. He was let off on Friday afternoon after interrogation revealed that he was “mentally unstable” since he lost his job in 2007.
Khan, in his 40s, had announced on his Facebook page that he was interested in joining Islamic State (IS) in Iraq. He introduced himself as a journalist, who writes articles for several dailies.

Interestingly, journalists in Navi Mumbai heard his name for the first time on Friday. “Navi Mumbai is smaller compared to Mumbai. We all know each other by name. We were also surprised when the channels flashed the news,” said a senior scribe.
His last post on August 3 stated, “Indian government is wrong in calling IS cruel. They (IS) never kill those who helped them. I appeal to all Muslims, don’t cooperate with the police. Don’t inform them about unattended bags. If a policeman comes looking for a Muslim in your society don’t give them information even though the said Muslim is your neighbour.”
