Sheena Bora Murder Case: Car Sold at Cheap Rate Seized

Express News Service

MUMBAI:In a major breakthrough, police on Saturday recovered the car in which Sheena Bora was allegedly strangled by her mother Indrani Mukerjea and stepfather Sanjeev Khanna on April 24, 2012.

Police said Indrani had sold the Opel Astra to a city-based trader for a very low price a few months after the murder. They got the number of the car from Indrani’s driver Shyam Rai, who had driven the accused to Pen in Raigad district, where Sheena’s body was allegedly disposed of.

Police collected blood and hair samples from Indrani and her son Mikhail Bora and sent them to a forensic lab where DNA collected from the samples will be matched with that from the bones and tooth recovered earlier. The report of the DNA test is expected in four days. Indrani, Khanna and Rai were taken to the spot at Pen where they allegedly burnt Sheena’s body.

Police have moved Sheena’s brother Mikhail to an undisclosed location. Raigad SP Suvez Haque said no murder case was registered on May 23, 2012 after a man reported that he had seen a partially burnt carcass at the spot.

“The officers of the sub division concerned had visited the spot and prepared an inquest. Statements of the witnesses were recorded. Bones were collected and sent to the JJ Hospital,” he said.
