SRINAGAR: Two militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in north Kashmir's Baramulla district on Saturday.
On specific information about the presence of militants in Thak-Gund village in Sopore, a joint team of army and police began a search operation this morning, a police spokesman said.
As the security forces were conducting the search operation, the hiding militants opened fire on them triggering an encounter in which two militants were killed.
The spokesman said the identity and group affiliation of the slain militants are awaited as the search operation was still in progress.
