Rail Traffic Hit in Bengal as Truck Rams Into Goods Train Killing One

KOLKATA: One person was killed and train traffic in South Eastern Railway's (SER) Adra Division affected on Saturday after a truck rammed into a goods train causing it to derail in West Bengal's Purulia district.

According to the SER, the accident occurred between Kantadih and Tamna Station of Chandil-Purulia section leading to derailment of the engine and 11 wagons blocking up and down lines of this section and disrupting normal train services.

According to police, the driver of the truck was killed and two others including the loco pilot were injured.

As many as 12 trains mostly short distance and passenger trains have been cancelled for the day while long distance mail and express trains have not been cancelled but have been rerouted or diverted.

Some of the trains cancelled were Dhanbad-Tatanagar-Dhanbad Subarnarekha Express, Tatanagar-Danapur Express, Howrah-Ranchi Express and Purulia-Jhargram Express.

Chapra-Tata Express - via Purulia-Kotsila-Muri-Chandil, Chennai-Dibrugarh Expres - via Chandil-Muri-Bokaro Steel City-Dhanbad-Asansol and Mumba/LTT - Howrah Samarsata Express - via Tata-Kharagpur were some of trains diverted.
