NEW DELHI: The war between the BJP and the opposition engulfed Congress’ president Sonia Gandhi’s son-in-law Robert Vadra. As the Congress continued to disrupt the proceedings of both the houses of parliament demanding resignation of the BJP minister and chief ministers, the BJP MPs raised the issue of Vadra writing a“offensive” facebook post demeaning the dignity of the parliament.
A breach of privilege notice has been moved against him in Lok Sabha, which the speaker referred to the privileges committee led by BJP MP SS Ahluwalia.
Vadra had purportedly post on his Facebook page on Tuesday, the day monsoon session began. “Parliament begins and so do their petty diversion political tactics... People of India are not fooled. Regret to see India led by such so called leaders !!” Vadra, said in his post on the social networking site.
The privilege motion was moved by the BJP's chief whip Arjun Ram Meghwal in his notice to the Lok Sabha secretary general said Vadra’s quote was a "clear cut case of breach of privilege" and so should be referred to the privileges committee for "appropriate decision."
The BJP which has been looking for issues to counter Congress, picked up the issue and raised it in the Lok Sabha on Thursday. As BJP MPs led by Prahlad Joshi raised the issue in the house, there were violent protests by the Congress MPs. Joshi said Vadra had "demeaned" Parliamentarians and wanted that the issue be referred to the Privileges Committee of Parliament and he be brought before the House. Arjun Ram Meghwal also said, "Robert Vadra insulted Parliament and MPs in his Facebook post. Action must be taken against Robert Vadra."
Sonia Gandhi was seen showing her disapproval, taking the cue her MPs intensified their slogan-shouting against the government.
Congress asked Speaker Sumitra Mahajan as to why BJP MPs were allowed to carry placards in the house while She had reprimanded them for carrying placards a day earlier.
