Rs 1,000 Cr to Make National Highways Green

NEW DELHI: Indian National Highways would soon go green with the Union Government planning to spend Rs 1,000 crore on greening of highways by planting trees along the 1 lakh kilometre of  highways in the country.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari will launch the Green Highways (Plantation, Transplantation, Beautification & Maintenance) Policy next week to promote greening of highways corridors with participation of all stake holders. The proposed policy makes it mandatory for all road builders to set aside 1 percent of the total project cost (TPC) of all highway projects for highway plantation and its maintenance.
