HC Rejects Ajay Chautala's Parole Plea

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday dismissed a parole plea of INLD leader Ajay Chautala, serving a 10-year jail term over a teachers’ recruitment scam.

Justice Pratibha Rani declined to grant parole to Chautala after the Delhi government opposed his parole plea for two weeks on medical grounds.

The court said it would pass a detailed order later.

The Delhi government said after his conviction he had spent most of his time in hospital by claiming poor health. Chautala has been getting medical facilities in Tihar Jail, the Delhi government told the court.

On January 22, 2013, a trial court sentenced 55 people for committing irregularities in the recruitment of 3,032 junior basic trained teachers. Former Haryana chief minister Om Prakash Chautala and his son Ajay were among those who were convicted.

The Supreme Court had refused to entertain the Chautalas' appeals against their conviction.
