RAIPUR:  The Election Commission (EC) has registered the new party floated by former Chhattisgarh chief minister  Ajit Jogi. The regional party will be called the Janta Congress Chhattisgarh (J).

Jogi, who resigned from the Congress a week after launching the new party, confirmed the registration. However, the party has not yet been allotted a symbol. Jogi said this was due to the upcoming elections in UP and Punjab.

With Jogi’s new outfit registered, Jogi's supporters are now planning a show of strength in Raipur early next year to which non-Congress, non-BJP political leaders from other states will be invited.

Jogi had applied for registration, suggesting three probable names: Chhattisgarh Janta Congress (Jogi), Janta Congress Chhattisgarh (Jogi) and Chhattisgarh Congress-Jogi. The EC turned down the latter two names as there are some castes called Jogi in some states. So the commission approved the name Janta Congress Chhattisgarh (J).

Jogi launched his regional outfit on June 6 this year and released a manifesto pledging to create a ‘Raman Singh-mukt Chhattisgarh’. Assembly elections in the state are due in 2018.
