Bimal Gurung, 22 others granted bail in Madan Tamang murder case

KOLKATA: A division bench of Calcutta High Court on Wednesday granted anticipatory bail to
Gorkha Janamukti Morcha chief Bimal Gurung and 22 others in the Madan Tamang murder case of 2010.

The divisional bench led by Justice Ashim Kumar Roy heard the prayers for anticipatory bail of 23 accused including Gorkha Janamukti Morcha chief and Gorkha Territorial Administration chief executive Bimal Gurung in the high profile day-light murder case of Akhil Bharatiya Gorkha League president Madan Tamang on May 21, 2010. Their prayers for the same were granted.

However, the Central Bureau Investigation has been allowed to arrest the accused whenever necessary. Madan Tamang, a moderate face of the Gorkhaland movement was against the repeated bandhs that paralysed the three subdivisions – Kurseong, Kalimpong and Darjeeling – of Darjeeling district during the recent height of the movement in 2008-10.
