NEW DELHI: The BJP on Saturday accused the West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee of having entered into quid pro quo deal with the anti-social elements in the state.

The BJP slammed the Trinamool Congress supremo for continued communal violence in parts of the state even while a Parliamentary party delegation consisting of Lok Sabha MPs Jagdambika Pal and Satyapal Singh were stopped from visiting the places affected by the riots.

“The TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee had entered into a quid pro quo deal with the anti-social elements ahead of the 2011 state Assembly elections. After coming to power, she has allowed the illegal immigrants from Bangladesh in West Bengal to get a firm base. They have unleashed unprecedented communal violence against Hindus in various parts of the state,” said the BJP national secretary Siddharth Nath Singh.

The Parliamentary delegation of the BJP could not visit the riots affected area in Dhulagarh in Howrah district. The BJP workers staged road blockade.

Singh, while speaking at a function in the national capital to discuss the violence in parts of West Bengal, stated that the TMC minority wing headed by the Lok Sabha MP Idris Ali had been spearheading attacks against Hindus.

“The TMC goons are unleashing violence against Hindus in areas where the BJP graph has been rising in the recent times. Banerjee has allowed the anti-social elements to continue with violence without asking the police to crack down against them as part of the quid pro quo deal she had stuck with them to win elections,” charged Singh.

The BJP has also asked its state unit in West Bengal to approach the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to highlight the communal violence in the state.

While the BJP is seeking to raise the issue in the state and at the national level, the RSS has also gone on an overdrive to highlight targeted violence against Hindus.

“We have been lodging complaints at the police stations. But the police appears to be working at the diktats of the state government not to act against the anti-social elements,” said a senior RSS functionary working in West Bengal.
