In a rare discovery, a team of Indo-German geologists and paleontologists found a 135 million-year-old dinosaur fossil in Lodai village of Kutch district, Gujarat.

The researchers suggested that the dinosaur might be 10-15 metres long belonging to the Jurassic era. During Jurassic era, India, Sri Lanka and Madagascar were part of the same land mass and the Himalayas were yet to be formed. The team led by Metiew Sebarti believes that it might be the backbone of a carnivores dinosaur.

The discovery stands significant as it will provide more insight about dinosaurs back in Jurassic era.

Gujarat is a known excavation site for dinosaur fossils, however, this is the first a full backbone with fully intact teeth and jaw bone is found. It is suggested that this might be the oldest fossil discovered this century.
